How do energy drinks work?
The most active ingredient in energy-boosting drinks is usually caffeine, which works by blocking the action of adenosine, a neurotransmitter that promotes sleep and suppresses arousal. Additionally, caffeine causes increased neuron firing in the brain, which sets the production of adrenaline into motion.
How much caffeine is in energy drinks?
The amount of caffeine in energy and sports drinks can vary widely depending on the brand and serving size. The Monster and C4 single cans we stock contain around 160mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to around two cups of coffee. Our FIT ENERGY has 100mg per can. In general, it’s recommended that adults consume no more than 400 milligrams of caffeine per day, which is equivalent to about 4 cups of coffee. See our article all about caffeine for more information.
Are energy drinks safe?
While energy drinks can provide a quick boost of energy, they also come with risks. Drinking too much caffeine can lead to side effects like jitters, anxiety, and heart palpitations. Consuming large amounts can also lead to dehydration, especially if you’re engaging in intense physical activity. It’s important to consume in moderation and to be aware of the potential risks and side effects.
Can energy drinks improve athletic performance?
Drinks containing caffeine can help you find your focus for those heavy sessions or long distance runs. Ingredients like vitamins B6 and B12 can also help reduce tiredness and fatigue. It’s important, however, to consume in moderation and be aware of the potential risks and side effects. Are there healthier alternatives to energy drinks?

Green tea is another healthier alternative to traditional energy drinks, as it contains caffeine and other beneficial compounds that can improve mental focus and provide a sustained source of energy.
